Purpose
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course is to teach the knowledge and skills needed to help prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This includes land and water rescue skills as well as first aid and CPR/AED.
Prerequisites
- 15 years of age or older (by the last day of class)
- Eligibility swim test of 300 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only and complete a submerged retrieval timed event in less than 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Course requires participants to have access to internet for online component. The online component is approximately 8 hours outside of the scheduled class time and approximately 19 hours in person.
Certification Requirements
Certification Requirements: Attend and participate in all class sessions, successfully complete online portion, demonstrate competency in all required skills, activities and final skill scenarios and correctly answer at least 80% of the questions in each of the two sections of the finals written exam. Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
