This is a common question we ask ourselves when preparing for a dive. Which wetsuit should I bring? Sometimes we are smart enough to write down what temperatures we dove and what we wore in our log books, but sometimes we forget or we are diving in new waters. Below are some steps to help you figure out what you should dive with:
- Find out the temperature range of the water you will be diving in, you can use the chart to gauge generally what kind of suit you would go with.
- Consider the weather- if weather looks overcast or rainy, you won’t have the sun to warm you up so be sure to bring layers and a windbreaker/Surfur to help keep you warm
- ALWAYS bring layers. Even in warm waters, multiple dives over multiple days will cool your body temperature down, so having extra layers you can add is important.
- Keep in mind what kind of diver/person you tend to be. If you run pretty hot, you can usually go with a lighter suit. On the other side-if you tend to run cold, you will want to go a bit thicker with the wetsuit or at least include layers.
Suggested must-have’s for your dive bag:
- Hooded vest- this will keep you warm around your core as well as your head
- Zippered Vest- to help add core warmth
- Scuba Cap- helps keep warmth on your head without the neck being covered
- Gloves- help keep your fingers and hands warm (some charters will not let you dive with gloves in protected marine environments)
